The Walt Disney Company claims to be where dreams come true, and working there was no different.
Product Management & Launches
I spent a year working with the Product Development Softline team, specialising in footwear and sportswear. However, the Walt Disney Company is the biggest licensor in the world and outsources all of its product manufacturing to other companies. This is where my love for marketing really developed, as the role was less focused on product manufacture and more involved with brand collaboration. I also supported product launches and had involvement with projects such as store POS and PR.
Strong Communication & Relationship Management
Having the ability to collaborate across a complex matrix structure with global reach required strengths in communication. Often acting as a conduit between the internal teams, for example, Brand, and external partners, it was important to keep projects on time for season launch.
Creative Inspiration
It was not uncommon to generate mood boards and designs to pitch to external partners for an alternative approach when using assets. Some of the designs created by me included flip flops, trainers and swimwear.
Disney Baby – The Licensor Expo
One of the highlights, besides attending the Captain America: Civil War premiere and rubbing shoulders with Scarlett Johansson herself, was the Disney Baby stand at the Licensor Expo. It was a large team and a mammoth of a project, but after hours of planning and dressing, the stand looked stunning and was very well received.
